Over the past few years we have added some great Angus genetics to our cowherd from the Gardiner program in Kansas. These cattle have allowed us to advanced our genetic base dramatically, adding maternal, growth and carcass quality to our breeding herd.
During my recent trip to the Gardiner ranch for their 28th annual sale I realized the importance of these qualities. I had the chance to talk with ranchers from all over the country, many were seedstock producers and many were retaining ownership of their cattle all the way to the packer. While I was in the heart of cattle country I also realized the value of carcass quality. We all produce a product, but we need to strive for the quality carcass that drives the market. Feeder calf producers may not see the value of the grid, but their customers do and they will remember where those good calves come from.
Many thanks to the Gardiner family for their help in our genetic advances.
Now I would like to share a slide show of just a few of the pictures that were taken on my trip in early April 2007. Click Here to see the slide show.
